It is an exciting time to be in the industry! Driven by the need to deliver a net zero carbon energy future by 2050 the Aotearoa electricity supply industry is on the cusp of transformation. Critically, the implementation and success of the net zero carbon strategy depends on our engineering and technical capability, putting engineers front and centre of this change.
Over the next decade electrification, customer-led solutions, and distributed energy generation technology (e.g. solar, batteries/E.V.’s, and wind) are going to directly impact the growth, demand, and productivity of our electricity infrastructure.
Hot on the heels of electrification advances will be the transition of technologies arising from the Fourth Industrial Revolution into our power system operations and addressing the complexity and risks of future power systems. The speed at which current breakthrough technologies such as artificial general intelligence (AGI), digital twins, immersive media, data, the internet of things, and cyber security have progressed has no historical precedent.
In order to understand these trends, enable change, and work with our customers to meet these challenges we must collaborate with others to grow our collective knowledge and understanding of new and emerging technology, drive innovation, and understand the risks. Only then can we deliver on climate change targets. This was the focus of the EEA’s 2022 conference.
Once again we bought thought leaders from across the energy sector to focus on delivering clarity around these complex issues and together we will brainstorm solutions and ways of implementing these to achieve our 2050 climate change targets.
The EEA conference also included a comprehensive Trade Exhibition providing a great opportunity for businesses from around the world and New Zealand to showcase technology, services, people and products, and for attendees to get ‘hands-on’ with the solutions you need. The Trade Exhibition also provides excellent networking opportunities which is especially important in this time of change.
There is no better event than the EEA2022 conference to grow your knowledge and understanding of the future of our industry. As the power industry’s largest collaborative forum in New Zealand, the EEA conference serves to nurture and grow our industry capability and prepare the next generation of engineering and safety leaders, innovators, influencers, and change-makers to ensure Aotearoa’s energy future. As interested, curious and enthusiastic members of the electricity supply community you simply cannot miss it!
