The role of our Network Development & Planning Manager
The role reports to the General Manager Network, where you’ll lead our Network Planning & Development Manager team in delivering the network’s operational and long-term planning function.

Key responsibilities:
- Lead and empower the Network Planning & Development Manager team.
- Develop long-term network plans to meet current and future electrical demands.
- Manage operational processes including outage planning and new connections.
- Contribute to the Asset Management Plan and optimise asset utilisation.
- Prepare Project Definition Documents for key projects.
- Shape design and connection standards in line with industry best practices.
- Submit reports to regulatory bodies such as the Electricity Authority.
- Maximise external investment value and stay updated on council zoning.
- Provide engineering support for compliance with regulations and standards.
About you
You’ll bring at least ten years of experience in distribution design, planning, or asset management roles, with strong power system modelling skills. Ideally, you will also be an experienced team leader or have worked in an influencing role in a large organisation.
You’ll be a passionate and driven individual who’s always ready to take on new challenges and is inspired to further develop their career in the electricity distribution sector.
You’ll be a collaborative leader passionate about driving innovation and excellence. Your ability to navigate complex challenges and build strong relationships will be essential as you work with internal and external stakeholders to shape Waipā Networks’ future.
You’ll also have a knack for problem-solving and have the ability to make decisions quickly and accurately. Your collaborative nature will be key as you work with our team, customers, and community, building positive relationships.
Lastly, you’ll also be a strong communicator and team-oriented but also be self-motivated to get the job done.
